The '''phytodiamond''' split off from the [[Gateway Shrub|gateway shrub]]. It started out as a mutation that did not root itself into the ground. However, the mutation was given the advantage of collecting microplankton from the water. After many generations, the floating crystal developed a hollow chamber within for flotation, much like a bony fish's gas bladder. Evolution of a floating lifestyle was possible, because there were no herbivores. The phytodiamond retains some of the poison from its ancestral forms, but it has weakened because there were no herbivores.

The phytodiamond split off from the gateway shrub.
