Ancestor:Descendants:

Over time, a number of poison crystal shrubs moved to the entrance of the sea caves located between the Somarinoa Coast and Yokto Island, where they eventually nestled in along openings. It was here that a new species was created.

This new species, the gateway shrub, only grows at the mouths of these sea caves. Because this location means less potential for photosynthesis in comparison to their old locations, they have begun absorbing blue spectral wavelengths, since these waves travel through water best, meaning they're more likely to reach the shrubs. Because of this absorption, they have taken on an orangish tint, but due to their continuing to possess a poisonous outer layer, a scarce amount of green can sometimes be seen within the orange, to those with a keen eye.

Their poisons have not evolved, as they have not seemed to possess a true need for it as of yet, not to mention that they remain relatively safe in their new environment. This new positioning within the Somarinoa Sea Caves has prevented them from competing with the poison crystal shrubs, and therefore they have not exterminated their ancestors; they are therefore an offshoot instead of a replacement.
