The pionferrus genus group split from their ancestor the ironetwork. They are at the base of all ecosystems in that they are the final component in the iron cycle. After the ferruphiles enter an area, and the rustmolds follow, these enter the area and by redoxing the iron in the area allow for higher iron flora and fauna to move in. Some species have formed a symbiotic relationship with rustmolds, providing them nutrients from the soil in exchange for minerals.
