Ancestor:Descendants:

The plodding plent is a scavenger around the size of a large dog. Evolved from the grasping plent, it evolved to take advantage of the many dead and decaying plants and plents. To this end, it became larger, to allow for a bigger stomach, and also evolved basic smell receptors on the barbels around its mouth to help locate rotting matter. Its mouth has grown a hardened plate to grind food. It has also developed a sphincter-like muscle around its breathing vent, allowing it to close for a while to keep out buttworms. The success rate of this isn't perfect, but it does reduce casualties. Its grasping feet have flattened to support its weight, meaning it walks with a slow, deliberate gait in place of its predecessor's sprinting run.
