The Rustwurm split from its ancestor, the Rasp-Mouthed Suckiron. It has left the water table and has come to the "surface". It still lives a subterranean life under the soil. It must stay in wet moist soil so it can breathe. They eat all dead things in the soil such as decomposing flora or carrion. its "smelling gills" rings help it seed out food and iron. It needs iron to sustain its cells. Thankfully all the soils of Maineiac have a recent volcanic origin and thus are rich in iron (and other minerals). They are limited to how large they grow to how much iron they consume. However they only grow up to 5 cm long. Due to their iron exoskeletons they are not very appealing to most predators since they cannot digest them.
Like their ancestor have no eyes, nor can they hear so they must find food through smell and touch. And the reproduce via asexual budding. Tiny buds will grow off the side of its body like little tentacles. Once they have grown big enough they will detach from their parent and wriggle off on their own to find food.
