The sailbacked bearhog plent developed from the bearhog plent. Its physical adaptations are minor. The wingleaves of the bearhog have become permanently open and have fused onto its back, forming two bright sails. These sails are more brightly colored for males and are still used to attract mates. Sailbacked bearhogs also have three toes on each foot. The range of this creature extends far to the north of that of its ancestor, and its major food sources include the miragebok and the crawling stumpworm.
