The seacleaner split from its ancestor, the polar spiral swimmer. It has adapted to feed only on dead organisms and dung. It arose when some of the old cells from the polar spiral swimmer stopped to form new colonies and reproduced only by binary fission. Its methane sensory organ has no more function now. The seacleaner just swims through the ocean until it finds food. When no food is available, it will stop swimming and just float through the ocean until it will find food. In calm-mode it can survive for up to a year.
