The small shield split from its ancestor, it has twigs sticking out from underneath its shield to sense if something touches it, if something does touch it its leaves empty themselves and the stalk does as well which lowers the shield over the plant, it does this quickly which may startle the potential herbivore. The shield is colored like the soil around it so camouflage it, it is also tough and wooden to defend from attacks.
