The spherischla split from its ancestor and spread to the boreal forest. It acquired a round shape and a thick cell wall, in order to protect it from the cold environment. In the same way as its ancestor, it will swim to the light source assisted by its three long flagella. In the absence of light, it will use calcite as energy source and produce some cryoprotectors, helping it to survive to the harsh winter. It is found forming large groups near the water surface, mostly on places where the light is more abundant, but also can be found in the caves and the water table, where it relies on the chemosynthesis of carbon dioxide into oxygen, a waste product.
