Ancestor:Descendants:

The stalkgulper replaced its ancestor, the trowelhorn gulper. Its ancestor has lived more or less underground since before the gamma ray disaster. Since then more and more competition over food has left it at a disadvantage, thus it has specialized in eating the black flora which has less competition. It has grown to twice its ancestor's size and no longer live in burrows. They travel in large herds and use their stripes not only to confuse predators but to blend in with the black flora it eats.

They no longer use their horns for digging and they are purely for fighting over mates or fighting off predators. They can run very fast and tend to run away rather than face predators. When the young are born they can walk within a few hours. They only have one offspring at a time since they grow so large in the "mouth-womb". To eat they pick black flora with their tongues rather than bending down. This allows them always to keep an eye out for predators. Their tongues also are much tougher so they can even eat the spines of the fuzzstalks and needlestalks.
