The stickystalks are a branch of the infamous stickyballs. They don't truly become sticky until a ball has created small pink seeds on it. When the stalk extends, the main ball becomes sticky. Its connection to the stalk is weak, allowing it to easily get attached to a creature walking by. Also, having multiple seeds on each ball allows for a wider amount of stickystalk patches to germinate.
