Ancestor:Descendants:

The supported darkpalm has split from its ancestor and moved into the temperate forest. When it evolved, there were not many trees (apart from the nidbin) in the forest. Because of this, the soil was not very deep as succession is slowed down due to the lack of plant matter being decomposed. This means there is not much soil for any roots to dig into. So the darkpalm evolved supports. Their two extra trunks now grow downwards and dig into the soil. A normal darkpalm would easily fall down in rain, but these new darkpalms stand a better chance because of this change. It is now the trunk segments that collect water, forming small pools. This tree is still poisonous, deterring the herbivores of the forest (twelve-winged worm, et cetera.), however the poison is only found in the leaves as the trunk is too thick for any of the creatures to eat. This poison isn't deadly but will make a consumer sick for a day or two and hopefully they will learn not to eat the palm again.
