Splitting from it's ancestor, the thermo mold has moved on to South Mason Taiga. It now can use heat from sunlight to slightly increase the efficiency of the lithotrophic reactions that keep it alive. In order to increase the amount of heat they can absorb the have become darker and have begun to retain metallic wastes which heat up in the sun further increasing the efficiency.
In addition the syncytia have changed as well becoming ovoid and a full centimeter long as well as producing a thin slime that allows them to glide over the ground with a rippling motion. They now travel outwards eventually forming their own colonies.
