Ancestor:Descendants:

Replacing its ancestor as it evolved, the trimell has adapted to a consumer lifestyle, feeding on other cells in the salt lake. The female now has three shorter probosci in place of one long one, and also has lengthened its flagellum along with streamlining of the body. The probosci, now function to puncture the outer walls of prey cells and to smell out nutrients in the water, while the nutrients and bits of prey cells are adsorbed over the whole body. The males have grown larger, but, lacking the probosci, simply suck nutrients and particles out of the water. Since they are now too large to be sucked into the female's probosci, the males now bond to the outside of females in order to exchange genetic information.
