The tundra gemshrub split from its ancestor, the gem shrub. It has adapted to the cold Barlowe Tundra. It is about half its ancestors size and can stay dormant under the snow for months. It keeps from freezing by using an antifreeze-like chemical in its sap. Their very resistant spores can stay frozen in permafrost for hundreds of years and still able to grow when it gets warm enough.
