Ancestor:Descendants:

The wheel crystal has split from its ancestor, the tumble crystal. It lives just like its ancestor except it has doubled its hollow spikes. This stabilizes it so it will not fall over so much. Like its ancestor it has hollow spikes which can be pumped full of an anti-freeze-like fluid to cause it to shift its weight from one spike to another. In doing so it can move around at a very slow pace. Filling up each spike can take up to 30 minutes, thus to get anywhere will take it weeks. It has roots at the end of each spike these not only can absorb water, minerals and microbes from the soil but allows it to sense the world around it. These "root-tendrils" will stop it moving if there is danger and even move in the opposite direction. In addition if the crystal falls over on its side it can use them to pull itself back up very slowly. Like its ancestor it has an organ that can tell which direction it is sitting, by having the fluid inside the organ tell it how it is oriented. In the winter when food and sunlight is low it goes into a dormant state until they return.
