The zergranid replaced its ancestor, the cave nakeworm in Ninja Sandstone Caverns. After millions of years without sunlight it went blind and lost all its pigment. They are pinkish in color because of their red blood. They have developed an exoskeleton pseudo-spine to help support its weight. Two pairs of legs have become front and back feelers to help it navigate around the cave. They never evolved hearing and not lost their sight so they must depend upon touch. Luckily there are no predators (except for the vainytangle) in the caverns so they can focus on eating and breeding. They also develop a spur on their back legs to help them grip the rocks while climbing around. As they grow they need to shed their exoskeleton. This can be difficult so they will rub them along the walls until they break loose. Since they are cold blooded they do not need to eat often and will spend most of their time sitting motionless to help conserve energy.
