The batworm sucker replaced its ancestor. Because the sweetbacks are a lot harder to catch than their ancestors, the batworm suckers placed a new species on their diet.
They started hitting low flying batworms out of the air and ate them. They evolved a skin that was resistant to the batworms' poison and they did not have to worry about it while eating them as they eat their prey from the inside. They also had to become larger to reach them and can now get 1 m in length. This is still very low, but batworms fly in large groups so there are always plenty of them that fly at this altitude. Their new hunting skill is to walk into the water and then throw sand on their bodies. They do this to hide their smell so batworms won't sense danger. They still eat sweetbacks when they don't have sticky fruit on them.
