Ancestor:Descendants:

The bell clamstrum split from its ancestor, the broadleaf clamstrum. They have spread across the oceans of Sagan 4. It has doubled in size and now has a jellyfish-like bell. The leaves of the bell move in an oscillating motion allowing it to swim towards higher concentrations of plankton. They stay within the sunlight zone so they can both feed on plankton but also absorb sunlight. Likes its ancestor its tendrils catch plankton and help absorb nutrients from the water. Inside the bell are storage chambers for food to be absorbed later. Digested food are later expelled from the chambers.

Individuals live for about 4 weeks. About halfway through their lives they will produce buds off of the central cell cluster at the top of the bell, which will full mature in about 4 days. The "buddlings" are around 2 cm wide when they detach.
