The bono buckler split from its ancestor. Due to the lack of any other organisms, they now must live completely independent lives. they feed off of the ancient remains of the old inhabitant of this cave, now reduced to nothing more than the particles that the bono buckler eat and fossils. They also became more stream lined and absorb particles through openings on both ends of their cell membranes.
