The boxingtoe replaced its ancestor. It has become larger than its ancestor and has included the various cellulosebane into its diet. In order to eat the venomerald, it has evolved thicker skin and a mild resistance to the tetrodotoxins that the venomerald produces. The hammer-like toenails of its ancestor have become boxing glove-shaped claws that are made of bone and keratin; these are used not only to smash crystank shells, walkers, and cellulosebane, but also to fight for mates. The boxingtoe has taken its ancestor's solitary lifestyle to a greater extent by becoming very territorial and they meet only for mating purposes.

The boxingtoe has also taken a more nocturnal lifestyle; but in order to do that, it had to adapt even further. Its eyes have become larger, which helps it see in the dark, and its tympanic crests have gotten even bigger, which helps it hear better than its ancestor. The male boxingtoe's tympanic crests are colored red-orange to help attract mates. Those with the larger, brighter crests are chosen. Just like their ancestors, the boxingtoes lay sticky eggs on the outside of their shells that will stay stuck on the shell until the offspring hatch and run off. The boxingtoe digs burrows with the claws on its front legs or takes over abandoned tunnels from other fauna.
