The carnossamer replaced its ancestor in Dixon. With the obsidiroot taking over it had to adapt or die off. Its branches are long and spindly to maximize the photosynthesizing area; its leaves, while on their own thin like tissue, grow in thick fluffy tufts. The flowers now grow along the middle of the stems in order that the leaves can reach as far a possible. The carnossamer's roots grow in a strandy mass similarly to Earth's grass, making individuals difficult to uproot. The roots have the ability to bud more carnossamers if the parent is destroyed. They have regained the ability to draw nutrients directly from the silicates in the dirt if needed.
Individuals live for 20 years, taking 2 weeks to reach their adult form from a seed or bud, and needing another year to mature. After maturing the produce flowers every 5 years, which grow into diamond-shaped fruit a week after pollination. The fruit has a taste comparable with Earth's cherries and pineapples.
