Ancestor:Descendants:

The chained barb split from its ancestor the yanimalius probisucker and lost its middle proboscis. Its side proboscises became larger and hook-like, they're now used to puncture the cell membranes of other chained barbs and hang on. When a group of chained barbs gather together they link and make long lines, sometimes up to a centimeter in length. Their flagella have shortened and are used in quick flicking motions to move the chain through the water. During times of famine (water with low light levels and few other cells) the chained barbs will slowly cannibalise eachother until better water is found.
