The '''chum gilltail''' evolved in the oxygen poor environment of the [[Chum Salt Marsh]]. In the marshes, the water is low on oxygen due to an over abundance of [[Marine Crystal|marine crystal]], which sap the soil of its already low amounts of oxygen. In order to compensate, they have evolved efficient capillaries that store oxygen. These are all throughout their bodies, but a large concentration can be found in their respiratory system and skin. They surface to the air in order to take in more oxygen by saturating the capillaries of their skin. They can survive for about five minutes out of the water completely, but they soon either dry up in the sun or freeze in the frigid air. The chum gilltail evolved in the oxygen poor environment of the Chum Salt Marsh. In the marshes, the water is low on oxygen due to an over abundance of marine crystal, which sap the soil of its already low amounts of oxygen. They have replaced it's ancestor in both the marshes and Chum Salt Lake.
