Ancestor:Descendants:

The coastal whorl split from its ancestor and adapted to life along the coast. Due to minimum competition and a lot of easy food the coastal whorl has grown much larger than its ancestor. To be able to grow to this size the coastal whorl has two states in its life, the adulthood; when the coastal whorl is roughly the same as its ancestor apart from a thin membrane "fin" that curls around its tale propelling the body at a higher speed.

And the pod state; the pod state is when spores from a coastal whorl has drifted on to a secure spot and the spore has started to grow into pod. The pod has four tentacles filter-feeding food like the adults and it has a breath hole but, instead of filtering water via the tail the pod filter air through holes in the pod. The pod will grow until the tail is fully developed before the pod's shell is shattered and a young coastal whorl is born.
