The colonial crocusium has split from its ancestor. It now lives in the Somarinoa Coast. It can live as an individual cell, but when in environmental stress, it will form a colony. The result can be two centimeters in diameter. The outer layer is hard, while the interior is soft. It is slightly transparent, so all cells can get light. The benefit of being colonial is that the surface area for sunlight increases.
