The cromocanth replaced its ancestor, the wolley. With so many predators to compete with it has become fully herbivorous. Their teeth have adapted to eating flora. Using its superior camouflage skills it can hide in plain sight. It can mimic any pattern or color. It has gotten smarter in order to trick predators into thinking it is not there. Its 6 eyes help it not only spot prey but scan the area for whats around it so it can mimic it. Its powerful tail allows it to quickly swim away if a predator figures it out.
They typically like colder waters and will stay close to the bottom among the marine flora. When attracting a mate they will flash their bioluminescent dots on their sides. They normal do not glow in order to hide from predators. After mating the female will lay its frog-like eggs amongst the marine flora. They are special eggs in that their outer membrane will mimic whatever color they are sitting by. Thus hiding them from predators.
Their primitive limbs have evolved into flippers which it uses to help stabilize it when swimming. Its barbels have gotten longer and are use to sense any movement below it. This can come in hand if there are any predators hiding under then sand.
