Splitting from the arid plyent, the crown-of-thorns plyent has grown in size and now thrives in the tropical forests of Javen and Morokar. Due a lack in predators, its spines have shrunken into thorn-like projections, though new ones have grown around the top to protect its vulnerable opening. Due to the relatively high humidity of the regions it inhabits, these creatures do not need to go to pools of water as often as its ancestor, and can sustain itself with the frequent rainfalls. To further aid this, its skin is thickened and waxy so as to help retain moisture.
Moving through the crystamboo forests, it is not uncommon for these plyents to create paths behind them where the fragile crystamboo have been toppled and crushed underfoot. This not only creates pathways for other organisms, but helps to fertilize the soil as well and promote growth of other, less competitive species of flora.
