The cryocanon replaced its ancestor everywhere but Drake Boreal . It spread across both Drake and Darwin's beaches, rainforests and scrublands.

The cryocanon was so successful because it can fire more than once. Where the explosive cryodome simply explodes to scatter seeds the cryocanon will generate seeds in the empty top portion of the stalk and then release sugar into the incubation chamber to stimulate oxygen and hydrogen production. When the reaction chamber is full the flesh separating the seeds from the incubation chamber dies leaving the chitin lens exposed. Light is focused through the lens, causing the hydrogen and oxygen to combust and forcing the seeds out in a kind of buckshot. The chamber then refills with rain water and cryodome hydroutine and the divider grows back to start the cycle over again.

In order for this process to not blow the cryocanon apart it has evolved a system of rings that act both as a structural support and as a kind of primitive leaves.The largest of these is a kind of skirt surrounding the bass that dissipates the energy from recoil.
