The crystal weed is a nuisance to plant and animal alike. Though the crystal weed's shape isn't meant to be dangerous, the sharp crystal growths can still slice up the feet of a clumsy or unwary animal. The roots of the crystal weed give off a chemical that prevents the growth of nearby plants, so areas of water containing nothing but crystal weeds aren't an uncommon sight in the Yokto River and Marsh.
