The Crystalfir moved into the mostly empty Drake Taiga and then spread into Drake Polar Scrub from there. In Drake taiga, crystalfirs form dense forests; but in the polar scrub, they sporadically dot the landscape. The crystalfir's segments are incredibly steep so the heavy snowfall that characterizes taiga biomes just slides off. Crystalfirs now contain their spores in ornament-like fruits. Because the fruits cannot travel far from the tree without assistance. The flesh of the crystalfir's fruits contain a wide variety of nutrients. This encourages fauna to eat it. The spores are tiny, incredibly numerous, and are covered in an adhesive substance that sticks to almost anything. This allows for at least a few spores to attach to the bodies of various frugivores and be carried further away from the plant. However, the fruits are primarily specialized to be eaten by the Festive Uktank, as they are small enough to fit in their mouths. The crystalfir also developed fruit in order to protect the spores from the taiga's polar climate, as the fruit's thick layer of flesh protects the spores from the cold weather. The trees produce fruit all year, but they produce more fruit during the summer due to more favorable conditions. (warmer weather and more available water)
