The curalbiter split from its ancestor. It has migrated into the mostly uncontested dark slopes of LadyM. There it found an unexploited food source: the curals. It now feeds solely on these sedentary organisms.
Its beak is stouter and stronger to bite through the tougher dermal layers of the cural. Its "eyes" are more sensitive, in order to locate other curalbiters in the murky gloom. It is more flexible, able to raise its light-producing bulb above the deep sea muck to signal others of its kind. Its light patterns are different from its ancestor, in order for the species to distinguish each other. Other than these changes, it is similar to its ancestor.
