When it became accustomed to the cold water that covered its trunk and roots, the airoot teflonpalm developed a denser structure. The cell wall of its cells is now thicker, and these cells produce a kind of cryoprotector, hindering the plant suffering from changes in the water temperature, mainly when becoming colder. Its leaves became long, and has been directed still more to the sky. An important change in its structure was the sprouting of small umbrellas in its trunk, used alternatively between the unchanged segments. These umbrellas are very important in hindering the approach of worms that scale its trunk on the surface or underwater. When starting to scale the trunk, the worms find several obstacles. In case they exceed one of the umbrellas, they soon find another one, making even the most persistent worms give up due to the fatigue that they will have when completing the ascent.
