The dredgebean came about when a spawn of pink bottomscrapers grew to fullsize, this shape and size advantage quickly wiped out the inadequate swarmers at the bottom of the bay. They are very front heavy and only go up to spawn and are otherwise at the bottom eating. Now they use one of to eating modes: solo; swimming in a zigzag to stir the sand up, and group; swimming in a straight line as the one in front stirs the sand with its tails, trading spots so each is fed. It regained its strainbean-like appearance due to dormant genes from its ancestor. These traits included the 3 eyes, baleen mouth and shovel-like head.
