Splitting from its ancestor, saltychaos has managed to adapt to the extreme salinity of the Ninth Salt Lake, where it now lives and consumes smaller cells throughout the water column. It still retains the multiple nuclei of its ancestor, although they have a maximum of dozens rather then hundreds. Unlike its ancestor, it has gained the ability to trade these nuclei with nearby saltychaos, with DNA from the new nuclei being mixed in with that of the old when it divides.
