Ancestor:Descendants:

The fat korystal split from its ancestor, the land korystal. It has returned to the beach where it adapted to the polar environment. It already could deal with the saltier soil however it had to bulk up to survive in the polar climate. Its trunk is now huge and round and it stores up food to survive the freezing winters. Only a small tuff of its red "crystals" are left at the top. They are still needed since the airborne spores release from the pores in them. Like their ancestor they use their fungus-like roots to absorb nutrients from the soil.
