The filtersquid evolved from the hydrodynamicus parasite marephasmatis. This creature no longer feeds parasitically. Instead, it swims through the oceans of Sagan 4, filtering small organisms out of the water. It swims by slowly pulling water through its filter-mouth into an internal chamber. When the chamber is full, and the food that has collected in the mouth has been swallowed, the filtersquid will seal its throat and squeeze the water out though a small hole between its tentacles. The water jet is directional and can produce relatively high speeds. The filtersquid prefers to live in temperate or tropical waters. However, it can be seen occasionally in cooler seas.
