Ancestor:Descendants:

The flashlight swarmer split from its ancestor soon after its tail formed into one light. Unlike its ancestors that waited on dead particles to float down, they come up from the depths nightly for fresh food, and go back down for safety. Where a sparkle swarmer's digestion-track ends between its lighting tentacles, a flashlight swarmer's ends under the light. They still defend each other with light. Before mating they light up constantly, leaving them vulnerable. This happens about twice a year.
