Ancestor:Descendants:

The fright tree has replaced its ancestor, the polar quillbil. It has grown slightly larger then it's ancestor and spread to the interior parts of Gec island. Because it has developed a chemical defense system that poisons the treehugger korystal, it is also poisonous to the fat korystal though as these do not grown on the trees themselves they are not as effected. They are therefor no longer afflicted by these parasites.

This has allowed the healthy non-parasite fright trees to out compete the more sickly flora surrounding them replacing not only it's ancestor but also it's main competitors the segmented carnofern and stoutplage. Without their host trees to provide them with food and shelter both the pudgy ketter and the ringtailed ketter have been forced into extinction. In addition with no more suitable hosts the short reign of the treehugger koyrstal has come to an end. It is similar in many other ways to it's ancestor though changes of note include the small height increase, a higher tolerance for the chemical composition of the soil, the aforementioned chemical defensive system and the fact that the detritivore roots are now underground and function as stolons allowing a single individual to spread clones of itself very rapidly across the island.
