Ancestor:Descendants:

The frilled gossalizard replaced its ancestor, the fanhead gossalizard. It has specialized to be a scavenger who frightens other predators into giving them their meal. Its large frill makes it look like it has many more eyes than it really has. It can pump blood into the crest to make the colors more vivid. It also appears taller, now that its upper body is raised. This helps its intimidate predators. In addition it can let out a loud shriek that scares off saucebacks. Its favorite predator to take food from is its relative the woodland gossalizard.

While they no longer "hunt" prey they will travel in packs of 6 to 8 individuals. After obtaining their food though intimidating predators or just finding carrion, they will fight amounts themselves on who gets to eat first. Typically the largest with the biggest frill gets to eat first. They will use their front limbs to carry food with them in case other predators don't want to back down or from other larger frilled gossalizards.

They no longer climb trees but will make nests on the ground. These are typically made from their own silk. Mating pairs must protect their nests from other frilled gossalizards who will smash rival eggs and even kill their young. Only a few ever reach adulthood, and those that do are the toughest and most aggressive.
