The glowspike split from its ancestor, the glowsnapper. It has become fully herbivorous with both sexes eating crystal flora. Its armor has gotten thicker to protect it from predators and it is nocturnal. They spend their early lives in the caves and then come out when adults. Adults will return to the caves to spawn in small pools of water which are caused by the dripping water.
They now grow semi transparent spikes on their backs which can glow a blueish light. They can turn them on and off like light bulbs and communicate with each other with them. Their 6 eyes have great night vision and can even see well underwater.
They have no more sexual dimorphism but they to have a metamorphosis from tadpole to adult. The tadpoles are planktivores until they are large enough to feed on crystal flora. Once too big for the pools they will leave the water and the caves. Many of the tadpoles do not reach adulthood and are eaten by predators. Only a small few each adulthood and successfully mate and lay eggs.
