The greyblades replaced its ancestor, the fermi sunstalk in the arid biomes of Fermi. With so many herbivores feeding upon its ancestor it developed defenses against them and the harsh desert environment. To protect against herbivores its leaves have grown into long sharp blades. Each blade-like leaf has a waxy coating on it to prevent water loss. Its stem now has protective bark that keeps the moisture in and the herbivores out. Its color is less black and more gray in color to prevent overheating and reflect some sunlight. Black flora work great in polar biomes but in warmer environments they risk overheating.
Like its ancestor its energy is then stored in its huge roots so it can stay dormant in times of drought. It can lay dormant under the soil for a decade or more. Once the rains return again it will regrow its photosynthetic parts and generate more spores to spread again. During this time an orange haze of spores will cover the island.
