Descended from marbleflora native to Vivus Island, the hengende have evolved a root-like structure for hanging off various horizontal surfaces, such as overhanging rocks or the undersides and edges of crystalpines. The latter tend to be the preferred hanging point for hengende, as their roots will penetrate into the colossi in order to leach vital nutrients and moisture from them, thus spurring on their own growth cycles. Another adaption is the evolution of sporefruit, similar to those that have evolved in other more "advanced" marbleflora and pioneeroots, in order to spread themselves. With their sweet smell and juicy flesh, they serve as an irresistible attractant for various cloudswarmers and specialized minikruggs. As they gorge themselves on the sporefruit, they inevitably become coated in the sticky spores of the hengende, and will then spread them far and wide as they traverse the landscape.
Occasionally a sporefruit will fall from the hengende. Because of their specialized hanging lifecycle, these offspring rarely take root and grow, instead becoming food for other organisms.
