Ancestor:Descendants:

The hibernating carnofern split from its ancestor, the alpine carnofern. While both it and its ancestor can stay dormant in the winter this species has taken it to the extreme. It has a much rounder trunk which is extremely hard, and during the cold months it will stay dormant under the snow, surviving on its reserved energy it has gathered during the warming months. Unlike its ancestor it can literally last for years in this hibernating state.

Other than its new, extreme hibernating abilities it looks much like its ancestor with purple leaves, pink flower and tiny sticky fibers under the leaves to digest any stickyballs that might stick on to it. In the alpine areas where it's too cold for stickyballs to live it survives only on photosynthesis. Like its ancestor it thrives in very cold and high altitudes.
