The hustlyn replaced its ancestor on the Darwin coast. It has expanded it's diet, including more specific scuttlers/shrooms and the additional red flora on the beach. Like it's ancestor, it has a pronounced lower jaw. This thick, muscular mandible is useful for scooping up sand containing small flora or live prey, as well as scrapping off pieces of harder flora.
It has become semi-bipedal. Normally, it is content to scoot along the beach. However, when threatened, it will rise up on its hind legs and hustle off for several meters (hence the name). Since most of its predators are slow pursuers on land, it can easily gain a lead in a chase. Consequently, it spends more time on land, though it will sometimes enter the water to get food or if faster predators attack.
Individuals live for 15 years. Males are more brightly colored than females, and generally host large harems. Gestation takes 5 months, and young need two months with their mother before they can start fending for themselves. Individuals take 2 years to sexually mature and 2 more years to fully grow. Males will remain as lesser-members of the harem until the lead bull drives them out at sexual maturity, while females will generally stay with their harem, though occasionally some young females will leave the harem with young males.
