The Jolly Gilltail split from its ancestor, the Yellowstripe Gilltail. It has moved from Darkov Temperate Coast into Yokto Salt Marsh. There it has specialized in eating the poisonous Yokto Crystal. As a result, it is mildly poisonous too. The older they get the more poisonous they become. Thus it is dangerous for any predators to eat on older adults. They will lay their eggs in clusters of Yokto Crystal not only because of the poison but so the offspring have a food source nearby once they hatch. They are called "Jolly" because of their Christmas-like colors which are actually to match the red and green colors of the Yokto Crystal when they are young and not so poisonous yet. However they retain the same color no matter how poisonous they get.
