The ktantonimbus split from its ancestor, the desert groundcloud, and moved to Barlowe Tundra. In order to survive in this arid and cold environment, it changed into a darker color, thus enabling it to absorb more sunlight. Nevertheless, the lack of nutrients in the tundra resulted in the ktantonimbus' declining in size, and it is now half its ancestor's size. It no longer forms colonies, and in order to preserve itself during the harsh winter months, it hibernates, causing a hale-like ice formation to grow and harden around it until spring.
