Ancestor:Descendants:

The leatherscaled beakpent replaced its ancestor, the razorclaw pipent. It now feeds solely on crystal flora and has evolved to perfect its life style. In order to feed the polar cellulosebane it has evolved an adaption much similar to the one the diveskunik uses.

It has both microplaque organisms that defend its teeth from decay as well as special enzymes in its saliva that break the cellulase making it harmless. Its arm-nails have become more muscular, its tail which it uses to shatter extremely hard crystal has become thicker and spikier, and its beak grew slightly longer.

Also because the shattering of crystals might release splinter shards its eyes have gone backward and are protected by small plates. Its leather body armor has changed to a scale formation which allows I to expand more when the individual gains fat and grows thicker before the harsh winters. The scale leather armor also gives it a buffer zone from the cold environment. Also under each scale there is a small pocket of sap-oil that helps it keep warm.

They have returned to the pack life their early ancestors had and now live in small groups that graze around. They also migrate in massive hordes before the winter towards the south and in summer to the north. They are peaceful creatures all year long until mating season when they will have mating rights battles. These are usually more a show than a real battle as individuals rarely get hurt. The female-males ratio is now 2-1, much more suitable for their new life style.
