The obelisk crystal split from its ancestor the poison crystal shrub. Like it's ancestor it has an outer layer is poisonous to eat. This allows it to thrive since far few creatures can now eat it. It has also doubled in size to live in deeper waters. The bigger causes it to grow in an obelisk-like shape.
