Ancestor:Descendants:

The planthog has split off from its ancestor, the rainforest plapir. During its evolution, the planthog's split trunk has fused entirely and has become a snout; its sail has reduced significantly into large spines which help defend it from predators. Since it lives in Hydro Savanna, its coloring has changed to help blend in with the violetgrass. Other adaptations include larger tusks which help it defend itself from predators and other planthogs, better hearing and a slimmer body design which helps it run faster than its ancestor. Since it runs faster, its third toes have become smaller.

Just like its distant relative, the bearhog plentdog, its tongue can pick up scent particles in the air and rubs them on bumps in the roof of its mouth. However, unlike the bearhog plentdog, it has ten of these "scent bumps". This helps the planthog find even more food.
